The Story behind the Designs

The raucous screeching. The mournful midnight wailing, the croaking and honking.

It's a far cry from the gentle chirping, twittering and cooing I grew up with on my family's farm in Lincolnshire, England... and I absolutely love it.

Viciously swooping magpies. Jackhammer-cackling kookaburras. Ear-splitting cockatoos. And the slow, relentless, scrap hunting "bin chicken", with its craggy black neck and scythe like beak.

These birds are anything but shrinking violets. You've got to love them for it.

It wasn't long before I found myself completely captivated by Australia's bold wildlife. But it isn't just the birds that inspire me. The vibrant native flora, subtropical landscapes, Brisbane's character filled architecture and colourful streetscapes all find their way into my sketchbook. Together, they tell the story of this wonderfully unique corner of the world that I'm lucky enough to call home.

So I decided to put my old-school textile design training and the hand drawing skills that are increasingly being replaced by modern technology to work, creating a collection that celebrates the places, wildlife and everyday character of Australia.

Every design begins as a hand drawn or hand painted original, created right here at my desk in Brisbane. From there, each design is professionally printed in Australia on quality cotton tea towels, before being sewn, packaged and carefully sent to your home.

Whether it's a noisy kookaburra, an elegant Queenslander, a favourite Brisbane landmark or a burst of native flowers, I hope my designs bring a little colour, laughter and Australian personality into your home, and perhaps remind you of the places and wildlife that make this country so special.

Designed with love,

Susie
